Richter is So Hot Right Now

September 13, 2012

I think the only conflict we’ve really stumbled upon while in France has been whether to nap or not. On one hand, we’re all absurdly sleep-deprived (we’re all starting to look a little like the grandma from Courage the Cowardly Dog…), but on the other, we don’t want to waste any of the time that we have here. So of course, instead of using the few hours after lunch and courses to nap and even forego food, my friends and I went to the Centre Pompidou. We should get a fucking medal for that.

The main exhibit at the Pompidou right now is Gerhard Richter, a German artist important in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. I’ll save you an extensive art historical analysis, but basically, he experimented with figures, non-figurative drawing, photos fused with painting, and finally the relation between art and the its credibility in the digital age. BAM.

After the Richter exhibit, my friend and I also checked out the some parts of the permanent collection.

Shout out to Sam for taking one for the team when I asked him to take an artsy picture of me in front of one of the paintings, but got yelled at because it was of course the one painting that was not allowed to be photographed. I’m going to blame the PTSD of getting yelled for the gelato I just had to get after I left. On a scale of one to Nutella-flavored gelato, how much do you hate me right now?

Yup, I always manage to incorporate food. Get at me.
